Following a week of viewers’ ridicule and frustration, the BBC has made significant changes to its Wimbledon highlights show.
The show, in previous years called Today at Wimbledon and this year re-titled Wimbledon 2Day, came under much scrutiny from audiences who simply wanted a highlights round-up of each day’s events, but were presented with uninterested audiences, bizarre camera angles, and awkward interviews.
Despite a previous statement from the BBC last week saying that they were “very pleased with the show” and acknowledging that “new formats can take some time to bed in with audiences”, various changes will be made for coverage in the second week of the tennis tournament, starting with tonight’s show.
Though the BBC have exclusive broadcasting rights for Wimbledon, the highlights show was initially being broadcast from the Gatsby Club away from the grounds – this will now be changed, with filming now due to take place at a studio near Centre Court. It is also reported that the live studio audience will no longer appear on the show.

A BBC spokesperson explained: "We said from the outset that Wimbledon 2Day would evolve throughout the Championship.
"Of course we listen to audience feedback and that helps to shape the changes we make. We have moved to a new location, on top of the centre court building, which gives an excellent backdrop of the heart of Wimbledon, as the Championship builds to its climax."
