For the prudish out there, avert your eyes now. Historical romp Versailles is back – and it’s promising even more nudity than its debut.

Expect sex, betrayal, debauchery, decadence and war as King Louis XIV returns to screens for the next instalment of the racy French period drama.

Here's everything you need to know:

When is it set?

Series two will jump four years into the future to 1671.

Will there be more nudity?

“Ohhhhh yes,” Vlahos told Radio Times. "Yes, just you wait until you see episode two, that's all I'm saying.” You’ve been warned, so brace yourself for the next instalment which will see the royals romping their way through the 1600s with more risqué scenes from the King’s bedroom and a five-in-a-bed scene between Philippe, the Chevalier and three courtiers.

What else will happen?

This series will see the King appearing to lose his grip on reality as his courtiers start an uprising to demand more power and he turns to the wrong people for advice. This is heightened further by the start of the “affair of the poisons”, a murder scandal which began in 1677 and lasted until 1682. He later decides to go to war.

Is this the last series?

No. Fans of the show won’t have to wait in anticipation for news of a third instalment. Producer Claude Chelli confirmed last September that the show has been renewed, with filming kicking off this month.

Versailles is on BBC2 tonight at 9:30pm.
