The X Factor is reportedly set to scrap the open audition process because nobody wants to queue.

Reports have emerged that ITV bosses are reportedly looking into the selection process as more hopefuls applied online for this year's show.

The Daily Star reported that 1,500 people turned up to be seen on one day in London although a total of 30,000 were expected to have applied to take part in the series online.

A source told the publication: "The production team are claiming they have been hammering the video auditions and that is why turnout is so low.

"They also say that no one can be bothered to queue anymore and they don't want to sit around and wait all day."

Another source added: "The ability to apply via WhatsApp didn’t exist when the show started so singers had no option but to queue for hours.

"It would be a logical step for the Open Auditions to come to an end after 2018 as clearly numbers attending are dwindling."

Last month The Sun told how the audition rounds had reportedly been cut to focus on London and Liverpool where they will be filmed solely in massive arenas.

A source said: “In previous years the show would always make a big deal of travelling around the country to find budding pop stars. But their attitude now is the right talent will come to them.

"Liverpool produced the likes of The Beatles and Echo and the Bunnymen while London is home to current talent including Rita Ora and Stormzy.

"Show producers will still be sent to the likes of Leeds and Derry to hold private auditions just as a precaution.”

Standard Online has contacted representatives of the show for a comment.
