The Island viewers ‘struggle to watch’ as contestants kill an iguana and two snakes in gruesome episode

Fans said they were 'sick' of animals being killed for entertainment

The Island viewers ‘struggled’ to watch the show after contestants were seen killing an iguana and two snakes.

As the contestants grew hungry after several days with hardly any food, they were forced to kill the animals to have something to eat.

But fans of the show were distressed by scenes, with one writing: "I do not think it's sound how they've just killed that iguana on The Island.

Another commented: “I am sick of animals being killed for entertainment, don't tell me these people need to eat, they don't need to be there in the first place. It's time this programme was shelved, it's nothing to do with survival skills, shame on you @BearGrylls”

"I do not think it’s sound how they've just killed that iguana on The Island,” tweeted another.

Bear Grylls warned viewers at the start of the show that the contestants would have to kill animals to survive.

He told the camera: "I've made sure there's enough flora and fauna on this island to feed them.

But if they don't have the ingenuity to find it, catch it and kill it, eventually they're going to starve."

The show also received flak from viewers who accused members of one camp of bullying a contestant with Asperger’s, James.
