Susanna Reid today leapt to the defence of the latest “Strictly curse” victims, saying: “We’ve all had a few drinks and had a kiss.”

The former Strictly Come Dancing contestant spoke after Seann Walsh and Katya Jones were pictured kissing outside a pub in Marylebone.

Walsh is in a relationship with actress Rebecca Humphries and Jones is married to fellow Strictly dancer Neil Jones.

Addressing the furore on Good Morning Britain today, Reid said: “We’ve all had a few drinks and had a kiss, haven’t we?”

Her co-host Richard Arnold said: “I think it’s possibly the fact they had partners waiting in the wings, that’s the real issue.”

The pair have apologised, with Walsh tweeting: “It was a one-off drunken mistake which I am truly sorry for.” Jones tweeted separately: “I’m sorry about any offence I have caused. I wasn’t thinking.

“I love my husband and we are very happy together, this is not a reflection on our relationship.”

Humphries broke her silence on Twitter last night, “liking” scores of messages calling for her to end the relationship.
