Danny John Jules was left gobsmacked after he scored a perfect 10 for his Jive.

The former Red Dwarf star received a standing ovation from the audience as well as judge Darcey Bussell who dished out the first 10 of this series.

Craig Revel Horwood tipped him for the final while head judge Shirley Ballas said he is ‘on his way up’.

Alfonso Rubiero, who was standing in for Bruno Tonioli, said: “You came out. You had fun. That was flying right now.”

Craig Revel Horwood said: “That is a dance I think for the final.”

Bussell jumped out of her chair, telling John-Jules and Amy Dowden: “I have to get up and applaud you that was extraordinary. The precision of your feet. The stretch of your foot on those kicks and flicks.”

Ballas finished: “You broke the seal today and you’re on your way up. That was absolutely amazing.”

The dancing duo scored 37 points to finish top of the leader board. John Jules looked taken aback, and joked his family were probably out in the streets celebrating.

“There’s probably everyone on the street now,” he said. “I need to check the door is shut.”

Viewers were in awe of the dance, including former contestant Anita Rani, who tweeted: “Gooooooo Danny! #strictly.”

One fan posted: “Danny Jules giving Pussycat Doll a run for her money, I was out of breath just watching that jive. Glad he got the first ten of the series! #Strictly.”

Another wrote: “The energy of Danny! That was fantastic x #Strictly.”

Charles Venn came close to bagging a 10 with his Street Dance with Karen Clifton, finishing in joint second place with Ashley Roberts who impressed with her Rumba.

Vick Hope found herself at the bottom of the leader board after scoring a lowly 20 points for her Cha Cha. She was savaged by Ballas who said it wasn’t her “cup of tea”.
