Stacey Dooley has sparked fears she has broken a bone and may not be able to perform on Strictly Come Dancing.

The broadcast journalist, 31, posted a picture of a person wearing a cast over their arm and shoulder and captioned the shot: “Current sitch.”

Fans of Dooley, who came close to topping the leaderboard with her Tango on Saturday, feared the worst after she remained silent on posting the worrying image.

One commented: “Oh no will you be able to dance?”

Another wrote: “Oh no hope you’ve not broken anything.”

A third panicked she had suffered an injury while training with Kevin Clifton, posting: “Oh no! Did Kevin drop you?????”

Another wrote: “Is it not just a metaphor for aching all over with learning her new couple’s choice dance..... surely. That’s how I’ve read it anyway x.”

Others suggested she is currently in prosthetics having a costume made ahead of this weekend’s live show, with one posting: “I think it’s a cast to make an outfit guys, correct me if I’m wrong aha!”

Standard Online has contacted representatives for Dooley for comment.

Dooley received a standing ovation last Saturday for her Tango to the Dr Who theme.

The presenter channelled Jodie Whittaker as she took on both the male and female parts to earn 35 points.

Craig Revel Horwood hailed her “unstoppable” while Bruno Tonioli said: “This girl regenerates and comes back better than ever. Impressive.”

Clifton, who was dressed as a Cyberman, also praised Dooley, tweeting: “For a complete beginner, the level of ballroom quality @StaceyDooley achieved on Saturday was so exciting. Can’t quite believe it! Thanks anyone who voted for us. Always proud of u partner x.”

The current series hasn’t been free from injury with Seann Walsh falling off of a stool and bruising his back from a difficult routine while Danny John Jules collapsed during training.

Strictly Come Dancing is on BBC, Saturday at 7:05pm
