But host, and former Strictly contestant Ruth Langsford, couldn’t help but ask what the pair thought of Sugg and Buswell, who finished runners-up on the show. .

Dooley said: “Joe’s my boy, Dianne’s a sweetheart as well,” before Clifton took over and praised the “lovely” couple.

He continued: “They’re so lovely, both of them. And they need to be really proud of themselves too. They did a great job.”

Sugg appeared to confirm his heavily rumoured romance with his Australian dance partner with a sweet Instagram post on Sunday.

Sharing a picture of the pair gazing into each other’s eyes, he wrote: “I may not have won the glitter ball, but I've won something a million times more special.”

Dooley and Clifton aren’t the only ones enamoured with the new romance, as fellow finalist Faye Tozer also discussed the relationship during an interview on Lorraine.

The Steps star said: “Officially now… we were all kind of hoping…

“There was nothing on set, it was all very professional.”

Dooley also addressed “flashing her knickers” during the live final on Saturday, joking that it “probably wasn’t a surprise” to anybody back home.

The documentary maker laughed: “They were like Bridget Jones, they weren’t even fancy!

“They weren’t my actual knickers, it was a bodysuit. When I went into wardrobe the girls were like ‘Stace I’m so sorry, you were showing…your area’.”
