Stormzy accidentally wears his slippers for BBC Breakfast appearance

The star also explained why he namechecked the programme in his latest track

Stormzy made an accidental fashion statement when he turned up to film BBC Breakfast wearing his slippers on Tuesday (January 7) morning.

The rapper told TV hosts Dan Walker and Louise Minchin that he wore the cosy footwear for a signing in Bristol and only realised he was still sporting the footwear while being driven to the BBC studio.

As Walker described the star’s UGG Tasman slippers as “magnificent,” he admitted: “I forgot… I’m an idiot!”

He added: “I’ve been doing signings… I did a signing in Bristol.

“I just stay in my slippers and then I got in the car, I was like, ‘Ah!’… It was an accident.”

The grime star appeared on the show after he namechecked BBC Breakfast in his new track Disappointed.

The single, which sees him respond to Wiley after they had a disagreement over Stormzy’s collaborations with Ed Sheeran, features the lyrics: “I’m so big that the only thing bigger than me last year was Brexit.

“I can’t tweet, I’m too reckless. I’m too BBC Breakfast.”

Discussing the inspiration behind his lyrics, Stormzy said that he wanted to embrace being mainstream - like the popular breakfast show.

“Sometimes, even like being here and being a kind of popular face can sometimes be weaponised against me,” he said.

“And I said no, ‘I embrace that, I’m BBC Breakfast, I’ll take that all day.”

He added: “I’ve made a body of work that’s an honest reflection of my truth… I always try to stay as true to myself as possible.”

“I’m very flawed in many ways. I’m trying to figure out stuff myself.”

Referring to Wiley’s criticism of his work with Sheeran, Stormzy stuck by his collaborator, describing the singer as his “brother” and said he has “nothing but good words to say about him.”
