Sir David Attenborough has teamed up with Netflix for a new documentary series Our Planet, taking viewers on a “spectacular journey”.

The much-loved broadcaster, 92, will lend his voice to the eight-part series which will explore the planet’s most precious species and fragile habitats, showing the beautiful landscape in 4K.

Speaking at WWF’s State of the Planet Address event in London, Attenborough said: “Our Planet will take viewers on a spectacular journey of discovery showcasing the beauty and fragility of our natural world.

“Today we have become the greatest threat to the health of our home but there’s still time for us to address the challenges we’ve created, if we act now. We need the world to pay attention.

“Our Planet brings together some of the world’s best filmmakers and conservationists and I’m delighted to help bring this important story to millions of people worldwide.”

The new venture is joint with Silverback Films, whose director Alastair Fothergill worked with Attenborough on Blue Planet and Planet Earth, and leading conservation organisation WWF.

The Our Planet announcement comes days before Attenborough returns to the BBC with his new series Dynasties.

The series will focus on five species, all of which are “celebrated yet endangered”, including emperor penguins, tigers and lions.

Attenborough will front the series which is his first major small screen project since Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II.

Our Planet will air on Netflix on April 5 2019. Dynasties begins Sunday November 11 at 8.30pm on BBC One.
