Sherlock fans, roll up – the first trailer for the forthcoming special episode has arrived.

While the regular series updates classic Sherlock Holmes mysteries in a modern day setting, the new episode will be a one-off, set in the Victorian era. The BBC recently teased an image of Holmes and Watson in their period costumes, whipping up anticipation for the special, which is expected to air around Christmas.

Now we’ve got an even better look at what will be in store with a trailer, which was debuted at San Diego Comic Con.

Packed with Sherlock Holmes in-jokes and references, the clip sees Holmes – clad in a deerstalker and smoking a pipe – and Watson entering their residence at 221b Baker Street, discussing Watson’s published versions of their mystery adventures. Amusingly, Sherlock refers to classic tale The Hound of the Baskervilles as “the dog one”.

Though stars of the show Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman were unable to attend the epic sci-fi and fantasy Convention to introduce the clip, showrunner Steven Moffat was there to discuss the show.

Moffat was also on Doctor Who duties at Comic Con with Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, and Michelle Gomez, revealing the first trailer for Series 9 of the long-running science fiction show.
