Susanna Reid has vowed not to watch Strictly Come Dancing this weekend after contestants Seann Walsh and Katya Jones enjoyed an “unpleasant” kiss despite both being in long-term relationships.

The dancing duo were pictured kissing and hugging in the street as they put on an amorous display on a night out in central London last week.

Walsh’s girlfriend Rebecca Humphries dumped him via an emotional Twitter statement in which she accused him of being “controlling” and calling her a “psycho” when she told him she was suspicious of his relationship with Jones.

Reid said she will find it “too awkward” to watch the couple dance on Saturday night. Speaking on Good Morning Britain she said: “I don’t think I’d watch it. I’d find it way too awkward. It’s because the mask slipped while they were doing the show, I think often it comes out afterwards.

“It’s very unpleasant for Strictly because the point of it is it’s all about the fantasy, everything’s lovely, it’s all very romantic but of course nobody would go there.”

Her co-star Piers Morgan leapt to Walsh's defence, claiming the comedian hasn't done anything wrong as he is not married.

“I’m going to defend Seann Walsh,” he said. “It’s his business who he wants to kiss. He’s not married. It’s his life and he can behave how he likes. How does it affect his ability to dance on a dance show?”

But fans of the show are bracing themselves for a “difficult” watch on Saturday night.

One tweeted: “The programme will be hard to watch. A great shame, I loved it. Because the 'girlfriend' @Beckshumps was apparently harmed by this, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. It is now an annual cheating event. A viewer can only feel empathy for the victim/s #Strictly @bbcstrictly.”

Another posted: “#Strictly @@bbcstrictly will be a difficult watch on Saturday after “that kiss” and particularly after ‘that statement’.”

A third wrote: “It is hard to imagine them just turning up on Saturday and everything going as normal. Not impossible in the Strictly universe, but difficult.”

A spokesman for the BBC today refused to comment further on the scandal and it is not yet clear if Walsh and Jones will be dancing on Saturday’s show. But it has been reported that their routine has been toned down to make it less “sexy” in the wake of the scandal.
