Ruth Langsford did a Debbie McGee by making an epic blunder to reveal that she had made it through to next week’s Strictly Come Dancing, hours before the results show aired.

The This Morning presenter, 57, made the gaffe on Twitter after failing to contain her excitement at being saved by the public vote after Saturday night’s live show.

The tweet, which has since been deleted read: “We're through to next week... Yay! Thank you SO much.”

Despite leaving fans furious with the admission, she then shared a Facebook video of herself thanking fans for their support, saying she’s “having the best time”.

Speaking in the clip she said: “I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you so much for keeping me in Strictly Come Dancing, I’m having the best time.

“And that Tango tonight I loved it and I did the worst dress rehearsal you could ever imagine as if I didn’t know the dance. I missed bits out we finished too early I stood on Anton’s feet. It was just awful and even he looked worried.

“I thought I cannot go out and do that to him tonight so I pulled my socks off and went to it and fortunately it paid off. Thank you for all your votes I really appreciate them.”

Fans were left fuming with many claiming she had “spoiled” the show for viewers.

One user tweeted: “No need to watch the results show on a Sunday if the celebrities are going to tell the public on a Saturday.”

Another posted: “This item should NOT be on social media it has spoiled the program for tonight surely the stars should have a ban on going public is ridiculous and I am not impressed, Ruth!”

It comes a week after McGee was forced to think fast and cover her tracks after accidentally letting slip that the Reverend Richard Cole had failed to make the cut during Movie Week.

McGee made the error on BBC Radio Berkshire, telling listeners: “[It was] very sad to see Richard go, the Reverend…”

The former magician’s assistant trailed off as she realised her mistake before quickly adding: “Oh. He fell over at one point so he went and had to be treated so we’re waiting to hear what happens in the results show tonight.”
