The 2016 Olympics kicked off last Friday, featuring nearly 7000 hours-worth of sporting events keeping us entertained over the next few weeks.

With British athletes including Jessica Ennis, Tom Daley, Elinor Barker and Helen Glover competing, Team GB are already off to a stellar start.

But if you weren’t lucky enough to bag yourself tickets to Brazil, there are still plenty of ways to catch up on the action from the comfort of your own home.

Here’s how to watch the 2016 Rio Olympics on television, online, on BBC iPlayer and on the red button.

1) TV

The BBC will be showing 3000 hours of live sporting action, delivering blanket coverage across the 17 days.

Coverage kicks off on Friday evening at 8.30 pm on BBC One with a look ahead at the action followed by the live opening ceremony, broadcast at 11.40pm.

A full schedule of the BBC’s television coverage can be found here.

2) Red Button

If you’re watching live on the BBC, the Red Button feature allows you to choose between various live events at different point of the day.

Make sure you’re either on BBC One or BBC2 at the time and just press the red button on your remote control to bring up the options.

If you want to keep up with the live action during the day and can’t slip out of the office to catch it on the TV, then you’re in luck.

The BBC Sports website will be running a live blog of all the action and live a stream to watch.

4) BBC iPlayer

To catch up on what you’ve missed during the day then you can always watch at a later time on the BBC’s iPlayer on demand.

The service will be offering coverage of the biggest and best events from throughout the day.

Come on, Team GB!
