Prue Leith says she is going on holiday while she waits to find out if she has got the job of replacing Mary Berry on The Great British Bake Off.

The cookery writer and chef said it would be a “dream” to land the job opposite Paul Hollywood when the show moves to Channel 4 after auditioning for the role.

She said: “I’m not going to think about it. When I come back, I expect to either be anointed or cast into outer darkness. One or the other.”

Earlier this week, the Great British Menu star joked that reports confirming her as Berry’s replacement were ‘fake news’.

However, she did confirm that she is one of two candidates in the running.

“I’m certainly one of the runners,” she said. “I can wish, I can dream.

“But all this leaking is not a leak. I think it’s called fake news.”

She added: “I think I’m close, but I know there are two people in the running. And I don’t know who the other is.”

Channel 4 are looking for a new judge to join Paul Hollywood when the beloved baking show moves from the BBC.

The series’ move saw Berry step down out of loyalty to the BBC, while presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins also declined to join Channel 4.

The Great British Bake Off will be re-launching later this year.
