Phillip Schofield kicked off This Morning’s 30th birthday celebration in style as he plunged into the studio down below from 15,000 feet - with a little help from Prime Minister Theresa May.

The flagship ITV show pulled a spectacular stunt to start Wednesday’s show, 30 years since the first broadcast, when Schofield resorted to drastic measures to make sure he got to the studio on time.

As the broadcast began, Schofield called his co-host Holly Willoughby to tell her he was stuck in a traffic jam and was set to miss the start of the show, begging her to help him.

Panicked, Willoughby set off a chain of phone calls enlisting help, including X Factor host Dermot O’Leary, Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker and Celebrity Juice’s Keith Lemon.

But Lemon had another idea and soon Schofield received a call from Prime Minister Theresa May, directing him to the Red Devils.

Mrs May said: “It’s This Morning’s 30th birthday, you absolutely have to be there… I know just the people who can help you.”

Fearless Schofield was then seen boarding a plane and getting kitted out before jumping out to get to the broadcast on time.

Willoughby quipped: “What time do you call this?” as they got ready for two hours of celebrations.

The presenter said: “To be stood up here holding a BAFTA for a show that you're lucky enough to even be a part of is incredible.

“This Morning has the best team and has done for 30 years. Everybody has said it's something that has shaped their career and is something that stays with you.

“This show gives you something that no other show can, I think, whether it be friendship or skills in telly or whether it be whatever you take with you for the rest of time.

"I think this is very special and everyone should be very proud,” she added as she fought back tears.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
