Channel 5 have confirmed their new host for the revival of Blind Date – and it’s a perfect fit.

Paul O’Grady is lined up to join the classic dating show when it makes a comeback later this year.

The Merseyside comedian, presenter, and drag queen is stepping into the shoes of late Scouse legend Cilla Black, who passed away in 2015.

“Blind Date is an incredibly special family show which brought laughter, tears and joy to TV viewers throughout the land,” O’Grady said.

“I am honoured to present the brand new series and, after speaking to Channel 5, I know the series is in safe hands. I can’t wait to see if we can find love.”

While a press release from Channel 5 claims the show is being ‘updated for the 21st century’, it also says the new version will ‘pay respect to the traditions and family appeal of the programme with the legendary sliding panel, three question format and live studio audiences’.

Most importantly, the show will now feature LGBT contestant for the first time.

Yet to be confirmed is whether ‘our Graham’ will also be back.

The show last aired in 2003, after enjoying its peak of popularity through the 1980s and 1990s.

Blind Date returns to Channel 5 later in 2017.
