Netflix released the first look at Sir David Attenborough’s new documentary Our Planet during the Super Bowl.

The national treasure will lend his voice to the streaming service’s foray into original nature shows this April, as viewers are taken on a journey across the world in partnership with the World Wildlife Fund.

Netflix said that the Super Bowl was chosen to debut the trailer to “remind audiences that the planet is our home and is more than just a game”.

The 30-second teaser shows animals in their natural habitat across the seven continents, having been filmed in 50 countries over more than 3,500 days.

Attenborough, 92, will narrate the eight-part documentary which explores the planet’s most precious species and fragile habitats, showing the beautiful landscape in 4K.

As well as teaming up with the WWF, Our Planet reunites Attenborough with director Alastair Fothergill, who he worked with on Blue Planet and Planet Earth.

Speaking at the WWF’s State of the Planet address last year, Attenborough said: “Our Planet will take viewers on a spectacular journey of discovery showcasing the beauty and fragility of our natural world.

“Today we have become the greatest threat to the health of our home but there’s still time for us to address the challenges we’ve created, if we act now. We need the world to pay attention.

“Our Planet brings together some of the world’s best filmmakers and conservationists and I’m delighted to help bring this important story to millions of people worldwide.”

The “ambitious” series will “transport viewers to a single continent and tell the story of its spectacular wildlife and iconic landscapes” according to the broadcaster.
