Naked Attraction, Channel 4: What you need to know about the controversial new dating show

Singletons pick their dates based on their naked body parts. What could possibly go wrong?

The market is becoming over-saturated with dating shows, but Naked Attraction trumps them all in the controversy stakes.

Channel 4’s brand new programme sees contestants strip off before they head out on a date together, with singletons choosing partners based solely on how they look in the nude.

Host Anna Richardson explains that the concept of the show is that it ‘starts where most dates end’.

“Evolutionary scientists say that back in the day we would have picked someone based on primal instinct,” she said. “So that’s what we’re trying in the 21st Century.

“I see it as a very positive, body-affirming and life-affirming show.”

Here’s everything you need to know about Naked Attraction:

How it works:

Contestants are faced with six potential dates, who are naked and concealed behind panels.

They then have to whittle six down to one after being shown various body parts and deciding which they prefer.

The couple then head off on an actual date, fully clothed, to see if their initial instincts were right.

What’s surprising?

Although the whole premise of the programme seems to be based around superficiality, not everyone goes for what you’d expect.

Not every contestant goes for the most chiselled, athletic figures, proving that everyone really does have their own type.

“It just goes to show that we’re all unique in what we find physically attractive,” said Richardson.

Does it actually work?

While finding true love doesn’t necessarily seem to be at the top of the agenda, Richardson has hinted that some people do actually hit it off.

“Some of them, as you would expect like with first dates, they end up going off on a date and maybe they simply found each other physically attractive, maybe nothing more,” she said.

"But with some of them, they're still together and they're like 'We were so liberated by the whole experience of meeting in the buff and then going on a date. We actually really, really liked each other'.”

Naked Attraction, Channel 4, 10pm.
