Michelle Keegan will reportedly return for a third stint as feisty Our Girl medic Georgie Lane after previously hinting she would leave the show behind.

The former Coronation Street actress has won hearts as Corporal Lane in the hit BBC military drama, which starred Lacey Turner in its first series, and is now tipped to reprise her role again.

The third series ended on a major cliffhanger – quite literally – as 2 Section were seen attempting to jump over a cliff to safety, signposting that either everyone was about to die or the show was being axed altogether.

But a source told The Sun that a fourth series is currently on the BBC radar and that the broadcaster hopes Keegan will be front and centre.

An insider told the publication: “Producers think that Michelle has been really good for the show, after taking over from Lacey Turner, and were keen to write her into a further series after developing her character.

“They have some meaty storylines lined up involving both action and romance.”

The news comes days after Keegan, 31, told the Standard: "Nothing’s been confirmed but there is talks of it and there are ideas floating around for another series.

"Everything that I’ve always done I always miss that character. I always get so attached. It takes a long time to adjust when I’m home to get used to normality. I was away for eight months and came home for two weeks.

"You’re with these lads who even on a day off you see they become part of your family almost. To have them not around it took a long time for me to adjust. It’s hard."

A BBC spokesperson said: “Our Girl has performed consistently well over the summer and is still being watched by a big audience on BBC iPlayer. We are in discussions about future Our Girl series.”

Keegan’s character found herself caught up in a blossoming romance with dashing captain James, played by Ben Aldridge in the latest series.

But it remains to be seen what’s next for the medic as filming begins again in January, meaning Keegan will be forced to spend more time away from husband Mark Wright who works in Los Angeles.

Our Girl is expected to return to BBC One next year.
