Well, after all that bravado, twins Tony and John Alberti have swiftly exited the Love Island villa.

While their time on the show was brief, the duo shook things up and caused extra paranoia in paradise – which, they claim, was their plan all along. We caught up with the twins after they left the villa to talk who should win, whether Lauren Richardson can stick it out, and if they might return later in the series.

You guys had a lot of bravado going in, the ‘two man wolf pack’ coming in to shake up the status quo – what happened?

Tony: We knew going in to the house that we were going to end up being the bad guys, the game-players – that’s what we wanted to do. We wanted to go in there, cause havoc you know. As soon as we got in there everyone was threatened by us, the guys were jealous of us, the girls didn’t trust us at all. It’s difficult to get into there and try and steal the girls off the guys.

Are you happy with the impact you made on the villa?

John: Yeah, well when we went in there we had a game plan, we knew what we wanted to do. We knew we were going to try and steal the guys’ girls, and on the dates we did exactly that. We were romancing the girls, charming them, sweeping them off their feet on the dates – it showed it works, the guys got pied and we got the girls off them.

Are you definitely out of Love Island, or are you going to be hanging out nearby in case you can sneak back in?

John: We’ve no idea. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with that one – anything can happen, there’s lots of twists and turns.

If it’s not you, who else should win this year?

Tony: We liked Chris in the house. We thought he was a genuine guy, he’s someone we would associate with on the outside. All the other boys in there were very immature and childish, not people I’d hang around with. Chris seemed really genuine and a nice guy – he had a bit of class about him as well. We’d like him to win.

Who should Chris be paired with as the winner?

John: I think at the moment it’s slim pickings for him. I’m not sure he’s connected with anyone at the moment. Obviously he was with Danielle and she’s chosen someone else now, so I think he’s going to have to try and work his magic a bit more, put himself out there. It’s going to be difficult because they’re all paired up, and they’re playing it safe to cover their own backs. He’s going to have to try and infiltrate that and push a bit harder.

Lauren’s had a rough time in the villa so far – will she stick it out for the long haul?

John: Yeah, I think she’s had a lot of trouble. From the get-go it’s been a bit shaky for her, I don’t think any of the guys are really into her. She’s struggling a bit. She’s a really nice girl, it’s just hard to open up her personality with it all.

Tony: I think she’s got more issues than Vogue – her loyalty’s up, down, her emotions, because no-one picked her in the beginning. I think she feels a bit like the ugly duckling in there. She’s going to have to try and do something with the guys and get on with them as well. She’s on shaky ground, she might be on the chopping board next.

There’s so much going on with who’s paired with who, and who fancies who, and who’s just playing games – what was your experience of being in that environment?

John: There’s a lot of paranoia in there, it’s very intense – especially when we came in they thought we were game-players, none of them trusted us. When we first went in we told some of the guys that we didn’t fancy any of the girls, and that got around very quickly and it made it even worse for us trying to infiltrate everyone.

Tony: I think there’s a lot of game-playing going on in there, and everyone’s trying to save their own skin. There’s a few that like each other, but the rest are just covering their own backs, so they’re all whispering in codes to each other in corners, saying how they can save each other.

Do you think your close bond as twins worked against you?

Tony: Yeah it did in a way. I think if one person had gone in it would have been a lot easier to infiltrate the group, but being twins we’re used it to – they’re all jealous of us. All the other guys were probably saying, ‘stay away from the twins, they’re game-players, they’ll swap you, they’re in it to win it’. But, because we’re together we can just go off and do our own thing, so it didn’t bother us, we’re used to that anyway – but it kind of worked against us a little bit in that matter.
