Love Island will crank the drama dial up to max in the opening episode with a new twist especially for this series.

Fans will finally see the new crop of singletons enter the villa on Monday night as they hope to couple up with their perfect match.

But show bosses have confirmed that the series five opener will carry an extra special twist with two of the 12-strong line-up being held back until after 10 have walked in (and presumably coupled up).

“In terms of the format we’re going to do some tweaks – there’s a tiny bit of a change to the opening,” ITV Studios Entertainment managing director Angela Jain told The Sun.

“The islanders do not know. There’s ten coming into the villa but in a twist there are two more boys that will appear later in the opening show.”

This is a change from last year where Adam Collard was the only late entry and sent shockwaves through the villa as he chose to steal Kendall Rae-Knight away from Niall Aslam.

The new twist could mean that two Islanders are dumped from the villa after a matter of days if left uncoupled, instead of the one exit.

The show has already found itself shrouded in controversy over the “lack of body diversity” in the line-up.

Fans and previous contestants alike were left confused when the newly-released line-up of singletons lacked any variation in body types.

We try and be as representative and diverse as possible but first and foremost it’s an entertainment show,” he told the paper.

“It’s about people wanting to watch and them reacting and falling in love with another. Yes, we want to be as representative as possible but we also want them to be attracted to one another.

“I’m not saying everyone that’s in there is how you’re supposed to look, what we’re saying is they are a group of people we want to watch for eight weeks and we want to watch them fall in love.”

Love Island is on ITV2, Monday at 9pm
