Loose Women fans were left ‘outraged’ after the show was scrapped on International Women’s Day to make way for coverage of The Budget.

Viewers hit out at ITV for dropping the all-female show from Wednesday’s schedule on a day that celebrates women.

Ruth Langsford broke the news at the end of Tuesday’s broadcast – to much booing from the audience.

“Just to remind you we're not here tomorrow because of an ITV News Budget special,” she said.

“I'm sorry, but the good news is we are back on Thursday and Gok Wan will be here.”

The show’s official Twitter account also reminded viewers, tweeting: “Morning!! We're NOT on TV today because of the budget. But we will be back tomorrow!”

Disgruntled viewers expressed their frustration at the “weird” scheduling, while others were quick to highlight the “irony”.

One viewer tweeted: “How are @ITV celebrating #InternationalWomensDay ? - by cancelling @loosewomen to show the Chancellors budget instead. Outrage!!”

Another posted: “Why didn't @loosewomen do a budget special? It would've been much more interesting and to the point! #actonpromisesyoumake.”

Others welcomed the decision to temporarily scrap the show with one branding it “terrible TV”.

One user tweeted: "#LooseWomen scraped for budget on #International WomensDay - that's hysterical."

Another tweeted: "It's a shame budget day can't be everyday then this c*** programme would never be on (sic)."

A third wrote: "Are people actually annoyed that #LooseWomen was postponed for the budget? The budget is more important, morons. #InternationalWomensDay."

Loose Women is on ITV, weekdays at 12:30pm.
