Fans have been treated to their first look at Killing Eve series two, months before the gripping BBC drama is set to return to screens.

The teaser hinted at a conclusion to the cliff-hanger from the thrilling first series, promising more of the cat-and-mouse game between Sandra Oh’s MI5 officer Eve and Jodie Comer’s psychopathic assassin Villanelle.

One image sees Villanelle clutching her blood-soaked stomach in a scene that appears to be set post-finale, which saw Eve stab Villanelle after a nail-biting showdown.

Another shows Eve looking in a state of horror as she soaks in a bath while clutching her legs.

Villanelle appears to be taking cover in another teaser picture, exchanging her usual confident demeanour for a paranoid glare.

BBC America president Sarah Barnett previously teased the upcoming series was commissioned before the first had even aired in the US, according to Digital Spy.

She said: "The early response to Killing Eve has been incredible – for that reason, as well as the fact that we wholeheartedly love this original, funny, thrillingly entertaining series, we are delighted to move ahead with a second season before we even premiere."

She is also set to host the glitzy event alongside Brooklyn Nine-Nine star Andy Samberg.

Fans expected Comer to bag a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress In A Drama Television Series.

But instead Comer was a notable absentee from the 2019 nominations list, with many fans left question how she failed to be "recognised", declaring it a "criminal" move.

Others claimed they were primed to lead a “campaign for justice” after Comer was left out.

Killing Eve series two is expected to air in spring 2019
