They may have seen several of their flagship shows delayed or halted due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but ITV are back with a vengeance with their newly announced Autumn schedule.

Not only has the broadcaster confirmed that its two hugely popular soaps, Coronation Street and Emmerdale, will be back to its usual billing of six episodes a week, ITV has also announced a series of unmissable dramas that will also be on our screens in the upcoming autumn months.

Here are just a few of the dramas we can look forward to…

Des

ITV

Based on shocking true-life events, Des is based on one of the most infamous criminal cases in British history; the story of Dennis Nilsen.

Referred to as the ‘kindly killer’, Nilsen became infamous for murdering 15 young boys and men in the 70’s and 80’s. While initially making friends with them and offering them food and a place to stay, he then brutally murdered them. Nilsen focused on homeless men, or those living off the grid, which led to him continuing to commit his crimes undetected for five years.

After his capture, Nilsen was honest about his killing spree – but failed to remember the names of anyone he had murdered, leading to one of the UK’s biggest manhunts in history.

The story is told through the prism of three isolated men - a detective, a biographer, and Nilsen himself. And with an all-star cast including David Tennant, Daniel Mays and Jason Watkins, Des is on course to be one of this year’s most talked-about dramas.

Honour

Keeley Hawes leads in this new drama
ITV

Another drama based on true-life events, Keeley Hawes stars in this moving drama which follows DCI Caroline Goode who brought five killers to justice in the heartbreaking true story of Banaz Mahmod. Mahmod’s so-called wrong-doing? Falling in love with the wrong man.

Goode is left appalled when she uncovered that Mahmod had previously sought police protection over fears for her life on five separate occasions, and decided to seek justice on her behalf.

The Sister

The Sister stars Bertie Carvel and Russell Tovey
ITV

This four-part series features an all-star cast, with Doctor Foster’s Bertie Carvel and Being Human’s Russell Tovey leading the charge.

Haunted by a doomed party which saw a young girl dead Nathan (Tovey) is left stunned when his eccentric old acquaintance Bob (Bertie Carvel) turns up at his door with new information that could tear his world apart – particularly as Nathan has a few of his own secrets now…

Singapore Grip

The new drama is an adaptation of  JG Farrell's novel (ITV)

Adapted from JG Farrell’s satirical novel of the same name, the period drama follows a British family living in Singapore during the Second World War at the time of the Japanese invasion.

As his business partner’s (played by Charles Dance) health starts to decline, ruthless rubber merchant Walter Blackett (David Morrisey) tries to ensure the future of his business – and decides Matthew Webb (Luke Treadaway) is the best fit for his daughter Joan (Georgia Blizzard).

Matthew’s idealism leaves Walter increasingly suspicious as Matthew himself falls under the spell of Vera Chiang (Elizabeth Tan), a mysterious Chinese refugee.

All these dramas will air Autumn time only on ITV
