Carol Vorderman has been booted out of the I’m A Celebrity jungle.

The former Countdown star, 55, lasted 19 days in the camp, but was kicked out on Wednesday night after receiving the fewest votes.

Vorderman said she was ready to leave because she was missing her son and daughter.

Fighting back tears as she spoke to Ant and Dec she said: “I said this morning I’m ready now and I’m desperate to talk to my son and my daughter. It’s the longest in their lives that I haven’t spoken to them.”

Vorderman said she was thankful for her campmates who she said made the show “completely different” to previous years.

“I have genuinely loved every minute,” she said. “It was nicer than I expected. We were a team. [In previous years] there has always been one person that’s a niggler and there have been arguments, but I feel it’s been completely different this year.

“I’ve enjoyed the youngsters because they’re the age of my daughter. I love being around fantastic young people.”

Vorderman – who ate a cows anus and turkey testicles – praised her fellow female campers Sam Quek and Scarlett Moffatt for avoiding shower scenes in a bid to show the public who they really are.

She said: “I love Sam she is very straightforward and Scarlett is hilarious. She’s fantastic – so funny but very bright and her moral code is very straight. There was a lot of discussion about shower scenes and the three of us didn’t want that because it’s not us.”

Vorderman also revealed she had a soft spot for Homes Under the Hammer presenter Martin Roberts, who she said needed frequent praise to encourage him to pull his weight in camp.

Speaking about Roberts – who has divided viewers – she said: “I’m very fond of Martin. He was a bit pompous because he didn’t know what he was coming into. He’s not involved in the celeb circuit.”

Roberts, Quek, Moffatt, Adam Thomas, Wayne Bridge, Larry Lamb and Joel Dommett will now battle it out to be crowned King or Queen of the Jungle.

I’m A Celebrity is on ITV tomorrow at 8:30pm.
