Piers Morgan has revealed that he threatened to walk away from Good Morning Britain because of the early starts.

The broadcaster has confessed he hates dragging himself out of bed, and admitted to being a “bit of a prima donna”, which has led to him locking horns with producers in the past.

He told OK! Magazine: “I threatened to quit a couple of times.

“I can be a bit of a prima donna. I was coming in at 4am and it was killing me, but now they let me come in at 5:30am.”

He continued: “I get more time off. GMB seems to be successful so, so I said you can have me a little bit less, which might be quite popular, and they were prepared to do that, so I was happy to stay.”

Before joining the breakfast show to front with Susanna Reid, Morgan had been a judge on Britain’s Got Talent alongside Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell.

And the 52-year-old quipped that Cowell “couldn’t afford” to have him back behind the red buzzer.

He told the publication: “I don't think Simon Cowell could afford me. When I was a judge, the ratings were 20 million, and they're half that now.

“I'm doing the maths and it doesn't look good for Simon.”

Good Morning Britain viewers were happy to find Morgan had returned to the show on Monday morning after a couple of weeks off.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
