Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield struggle through This Morning cooking demo after big night at the NTAs

The pair were less than impressed with John Torode's choice of recipe

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield found it hard to maintain composure during This Morning’s cooking segment after partying at the National Television Awards.

The duo continued their winning streak at the annual ceremony as This Morning received the award for Best Live Magazine Show for the 17th year running, which also marked the presenters’ 10th win together.

After introducing chef John Torode and guest presenter Allison Hammond, Willoughby, 38, and Schofield, 57, struggled to hold it together as the Masterchef star whipped up an Aussie breakfast including sweetcorn fritters during Wednesday's (January 29) episode.

The double act were unimpressed by Torode’s combination of eggs and sweetcorn, with Willoughby pretending to gag and pointing out its unfortunate resemblance to “something I saw on the pavement last night.”

Torode then attempted to placate them by making bloody Marys to assuage their hangovers.

Willoughby and Schofield, who typically celebrate the morning after their NTA wins with a dramatic entrance to the show, kicked off This Morning in unexpectedly low-key fashion.

Admitting that they were both “suffering” with hangovers after their celebrations, Schofield asked Willoughby to be “a little bit quieter” as he struggled to adjust to the studio lights.

His presenting partner then revealed that they had made the “rookie error” of mixing different types of alcohol.

She then claimed that guest presenter Alice Beer had filled her bag with “pre-salted shot glasses for tequila” and that John Barrowman had “what looked like a water bottle, but it was not [filled with] water.”

“It was like being at a festival,” Schofield claimed, before Willoughby went on to thank viewers for voting for This Morning, telling them: “We appreciate it so much.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
