With the Great British Bake Off moving to Channel 4 in 2017 with judge Paul Hollywood, viewers have been speculating about what the BBC will do next.

Mel Giedroyc, Sue Perkins and Mary Berry all quit the show over loyalty to the BBC – with rumours that the network will be launching their own rival baking show.

Now a press release from the BBC hints that Nadiya Hussain might be involved in whatever comes next.

In a statement announcing that she will continue to make films for The One Show, Hussain said: “Since winning The Great British Bake Off I’ve been lucky to have had some amazing opportunities with the BBC.

“I believe that making it my home gives me the scope to work across such a unique range of diverse and interesting projects.”

The release could be seen as confirmation that Hussain will not be joining Paul Hollywood on Channel 4’s Bake Off, as she describes the BBC as her “home”. Could a new Bake Off rival be one of the "interesting projects" she has lined up?

After winning the competition, Hussain this year starred in her own two-parter The Chronicles of Nadiya, where she travelled around Bangladesh, reuniting with members of her extended family, and cooking as she went.

Mary Berry announced her departure from the Bake Off in a statement saying: "My decision to stay with the BBC is out of loyalty to them, as they have nurtured me, and the show, that was a unique and brilliant format from day one.”

The current series of Bake Off has two episodes left, with the next full series set to air on Channel 4 in 2017.
