Imelda became the first victim of this year’s Great British Bake Off after failing to win over the judges during biscuit week.

The Countryside Recreation Officer and mother-of-one was left in tears after Sandi Toksvig broke the devastating news.

Speaking on leaving she said: “I’m frustrated because I know I could do better. But it’s one of the best experiences of my life.”

Terry narrowly avoided getting the chop after failing to finish his sheep inspired biscuits during the signature challenge. He also left Paul Hollywood unimpressed with his attempts at making Wagon Wheels for the technical challenge.

But he was saved by his masterpiece brandy snap showstopper selfie. “Week one done,” he said. “Kick up the back side I guess.”

The first star baker of the series was Manon who wowed Hollywood with her hazelnut and chocolate biscuits.

Twelve amateur bakers were put through their paces in the white tent as the hit TV show returned to Channel 4.

Show bosses couldn’t resist mocking judge Prue Leith’s epic Twitter blunder which saw her prematurely announce the 2017 winner on the micro blogging site.

Hosts Toksvig and Noel Fielding opened the show with a Back to the Future inspired skit as they tried to go back in time to stop Leith from sending the tweet.

Next week is Cake Week which will kick off with a signature tray bake before wrapping up with an ambitious showstopper.

Great British Bake Off is on Channel 4, Tuesday at 8pm
