Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins broke down live on air after watching the new John Lewis Christmas advert.

The breakfast show host had been watching the clip with the rest of the team during Friday's show, when she burst into tears.

Visibly moved, she said: “They always get me, Christmas adverts – just move on it’s fine. We had a big night last night.”

Her co-presenter Ben Shephard quipped: “Are you leaking Prosecco out of your eyes?”

Entertainment reporter Richard Arnold scolded: “This is just remorse for overdoing it last night and not the effects of the John Lewis ad.”

But GMB anchor Kate Garraway was quick to point out that Hawkins wasn’t the only one affected by the clip. She told Arnold: “Even you started blubbing then.”

To which he joked: “And it’s well known I have a heart like a swinging brick. Even I felt something then.”

The new John Lewis ad features a monster who moves in under a child’s bed. At first the little boy is afraid of his new roommate and angry with his snoring, but then the pair become friends, staying up all night to play with toys.

Viewers have had a mixed reaction to the clip, with some questioning whether it was worth the £7million sum spent on creating it.

Others had a similar response to Hawkins, saying the ‘moving’ ad had reduced them to tears.
