Since the Christmas Day special aired last week, fans have been desperate for Gavin and Stacey to return for another series.

The one-off special, created by James Corden and Ruth Jones, saw Stacey’s Uncle Bryn (played by Rob Brydon) host the two families for Christmas lunch at his home in Barry Island.

After the heart-warming episode – which featured a surprising cliffhanger – viewers have questioned if this will mean another series in the works.

So, what have each of the cast said about the show's future? Here are all of their comments so far...

Joanna Page (Stacey Shipman)

While she was on the sofa, the presenting pair pressed the actress on whether or not there will be more episodes in the future.

She admitted: “I think we would all love to do a series or more specials.

“This is what the cast is like to Ruth [Jones] and James [Corden]. So I think we would all desperately love to do more or a special every year. But I’ve no idea, it’s up to them.”

During an interview with Red magazine at the beginning of the December, Jones said it would be “churlish” of her to say the Christmas special would be the final episode of the award-winning series.

She added: “The honest truth is there are no plans, but I don’t think I could ever say never.”

Larry Lamb (Mick Shipman)

Fans floodede Larry's Twitter mentions with praise after seeing him return as Mick, urging him to speak to Jones and Corden about writing a new series.

Lamb suggested there could be one in the works if fans continued to ask for it, and responded on Twitter: “Just keep up the pressure!!”

Alison Steadman (Pam Shipman)

As our favourite Essex mum and lover of leggings and sparkly tops, Steadman won praise for stepping back into Pam’s shoes for the show.

But after wrapping filming, Steadman said she felt a real loss after starring as Pam for the final time.

She told the Express newspaper: “But there was a real sense of mourning when I had to put Pamela to bed because there's no plans for any more episodes.

"It does end on a cliffhanger so fans will no doubt be desperate for another instalment. But will there be? Obviously there is room for it to move on.

"So all I'll say for now is, who knows?"

Laura Aikman (Sonia)

The newcomer to the show, Aikman played the role of Smithy’s new girlfriend/prospective fiancée (who did not quite fit in with the family) perfectly.

But when speaking about the future of the show, she revealed she is also none the wiser – but Mathew Horne is apparently on board for another series.

When asked about the matter, she told HuffPost UK: “I don’t know. I can only hope. I mean, I saw Mat Horne the other day, and he was like, ‘Surely there’s going to be more’.

“He seemed very convinced that there’d be more, and that we’d all be back. But I don’t know. James sort of casually mentioned it at one point, but they’re so busy, I mean, Ruth is writing a novel, James is over in LA, so I don’t know. So I can’t imagine it’ll be any time soon with how much they’ve both got on.

"But saying that, everyone did enjoy it so much, so never say never.”

Oscar Hartland (Neil the Baby)

As the youngest star of the show, 10-year-old Hartland – who previously was the actual baby in the series – said he was desperate for the show to come back and allow him to continue developing his acting skills.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, he said: “I would like them to make a series four so much. I would like Smithy to say yes, and for the last episode to be their wedding.”

He added: “I asked James Corden and he said it was about what the fans want.

“He said he doesn’t want people to be like ‘Oh no, it’s Gavin and Stacey on again’."
