Game of Thrones season 8 theories: Do these episode 4 spoiler pictures tell us Daenerys' next move?

WARNING: Spoiler alert

New teaser photos from episode four of the final ever Game of Thrones season have dropped, giving fans an insight into the aftermath of the epic Battle of Winterfell.

The most recent instalment of the show’s eighth series saw the forces of the living and the dead fight it out in a nerve-shredding battle, which came to a thrilling conclusion when Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) destroyed the villainous Night King.

Eight new images released by HBO show what viewers can expect from the fallout, with the Stark family and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) mourning the casualties of battle – and preparing to travel to King’s Landing for yet another clash.

Two images show Daenerys and her remaining friends and advisors, including Missandei (Nathalie Emmanuel) and Grey Worn (Jacob Anderson), surveying the dead; another similar shot shows the Stark siblings – minus Jon Snow – joining together to mourn their losses.

Daenerys, Missandei and Varys (Conleth Hill) appear to be developing a strategy for the next battle in a third picture, which shows them consulting a huge map of Westeros, using colourful counters to represent different military forces.

It appears that naval strategy will be crucial for the Targaryen forces in future episodes, as another picture shows their fleet setting out onto the ocean, with the red dragon crest clearly visible against the black sails.

As her enemies’ forces close in on King’s Landing, one picture shows Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) looking remarkably unperturbed by the impending battle, as she smirks at new ally Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk).

The new photos come after HBO treated fans to a teaser trailer for the forthcoming episode, which saw Daenerys voice her intention to destroy Cersei in a bid to bring herself one step close to the Iron Throne.

“We have won the great war, now we will win the last war,” she announces, before declaring: “We’ll rip [Cersei] out, root and stem.”

Game of Thrones continues on Mondays at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic and is available to stream on demand on NOW TV.
