Emilia Clarke was left feeling emotional as she shared a snap alongside her Game of Thrones co-star Iain Glen.

This weekend’s episode saw many beloved characters fall in the Battle of Winterfell, with Glen’s Ser Jorah Mormont amongst the dead.

Show staple Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen, mourned the passing of Ser Jorah, who was killed whilst protecting Daenerys during the epic clash, in a sweet Instagram post.

Clarke shared an adorable snap of herself beaming as she cuddled up to Glen.

Typing in capitals and adding a crying emoji for effect, Clarke captioned the post: “YOU’RE SIMPLY THE BEST, BETTER THAN ALL THE REST, BETTER THAN ANYONE, ANYONE I'VE EVER MET......” #serjorahforlyfe #thronesthrowsapunchandahalf @hbo @gameofthrones #heartbreakhotel #bestthingiveverseenonscreenEVER.”

The sweet post resonated with emotional fans of the show who told her how they were left in tears over his departure.

One user wrote: “I ugly cried. Jorah is my favourite character. Please thank the writers and directors for giving him a worthy death.”

"Broke my heart! Jorah was my favourite character from all the seasons,” another wrote.

A third added: “I’ve never cried so hard as what I did during the scene between these two.”

Glen’s departure from the show comes as Game of Thrones gears up for its finale, with three episodes remaining.

Yesterday’s teaser trailer for episode four showed Daenerys at the forefront of the drama, making it clear she is targeting Cersei Lannister and anyone else who stands in her way of taking the Iron Throne.

Clarke previously defended her character’s determination take the throne after fans mocked Daenerys for not caring that she has been in an incestuous relationship with her nephew Jon Snow (Kit Harington), instead fixing on the fact that he may be next in line to the succession.

Last week she told Entertainment Weekly: “Dany literally was brought into this world going, ‘RUN!’ These f****** [in Westeros] have f***** everything up.

“Now it’s, ‘You’re our only hope.’ There’s so much she’s taken on in her duty in life to rectify. There’s so much she’s seen and witnessed and been through and lost and suffered and hurt to get her and Jon doesn’t even want it.”

Game of Thrones airs Mondays at 2am and 9pm on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV.
