David Beckham is set to reveal how he struggled to keep his children out of the limelight in an upcoming Netflix documentary about his life.

A trailer for the four-part series, called Beckham, shows how the former footballer moved forward with his career on and off the pitch despite facing intense pressures.

Rare and never seen before footage has been used for the insight. One scene shows fans mobbing the Beckhams’ vehicle as David, driving, tells his crying son, “Don’t worry Buster, they can’t get in the car”.

The series will also feature contemporary and historic interviews from Beckham’s family and teammates as well as his Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Beckham played under the Scot for a decade before their relationship soured when Sir Alex accidentally kicked a boot at the midfielder after a loss to Arsenal in 2003, leaving a scar. The trailer shows Beckham being asked if he “went at” his manager after this, to which he said “yeah”.

At another point, Beckham said fame “definitely didn’t change me,” while in another extract Sir Alex says: “Well, he changed. There’s no doubt about that”.

There will be further revelations when the documentary is released, but this is all we know about the series for now.

When will Beckham be released?

All four episodes of Beckham will be released on Netflix on October 4.

The streaming service said: “It features a mixture of never-before-seen personal archive footage from the last 40 years, candid current-day moments, and interviews with the family, friends, and footballing figures who have been part of his journey.”

Fisher Stevens directed the series and it was produced by John Battsek.

Other talking heads involved include former footballers Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand, the latter saying “I remember saying to Becks, thank f*** you are on our team”.

Beckham’s parents Sandra and Ted will also be featured.
