Brenda Blethyn’s overexcited dog causes chaos on This Morning after nearly knocking the actress over

The Vera star's pet stole the show

A This Morning interview with Brenda Blethyn went awry after the actress's dog got a little overexcited and almost knocked her over by climbing onto her shoulder.

The Vera star was chatting to hosts Eamon Holmes and Ruth Langsford when her pet dog Jack jumped up, causing her to fall to one side.

A laughing Blethyn asked: “Was that on the television?”

To which an equally amused Langsford replied: “I’m afraid so. He does love you, doesn’t he?” as Blethyn apologised for the dog’s behaviour.

Later as Blethyn tried to exit the studio, the mischievous Jack continued to accost his owner.

Fans of the show shared in the mirth on social media, with one writing: “Hysterical… Sitting here laughing like a loon on my own. I’ve had to record Jack to show my husband when he gets home.”

While another wrote: “That was the funniest thing ever, bless Jack.”

Others praised Blethyn for keeping her composure.

“The way @BrendaBlethyn dealt with it was pure class! Fantastic!” tweeted one.

Elsewhere in Thursday’s show there was further canine-based hilarity as Eamonn Holmes made a rude joke to a guest who had had his dog stuffed after its death, asking: “Mitch, how much does a good stuffing cost?”

This Morning continues weekdays at 10.30 am on ITV.
