Wimbledon to feature in second part of hit Netflix show
16 June 2023

Netflix has released a trailer for Break Point: Part 2, a documentary series into the lives of professional players dealing with the highs and lows of the tour.

Ons Jabeur, Iga Świątek, and Nick Kyrgios are among the players to be featured in the second season of the show.

Maria Sakkari and Ajla Tomljanović also gave over their lives to the cameras for the access-all-areas format from the Drive to Survive producers.

With the French Open having wrapped up on Sunday, and players now preparing for Wimbledon, it is the perfect time to get up to speed.

When is Break Point: Part 2 on and where can I watch it?

All episodes of Break Point: Part 2 will be streamed on Netflix from June 21.

What happened in series one?

The five episodes of series one were released on Netflix on January 13 and charted the lives of 10 players.

It was billed very much as the first part and focused on the Australian Open, Indian Wells Masters, Madrid Open, and French Open from 2022.

Each episode focuses on one player and was credited for picking up on top players who are yet to become household names. Like Drive to Survive did for Formula One, the series showed the stresses and strains behind the scenes as well as the on-court glory. It was met with widely positive reviews.

Series two was commissioned at the same time as golf documentary Full Swing.

“These shows quickly appealed to core fans of golf and tennis, and also recruited brand new fans from all around the world,” said Brandon Riegg of Netflix at the time.

“Like so much of our growing sports slate, the compelling characters, competitive stakes, and vibrant storytelling reveal sides of the game you’ve never seen before, and we’re excited to follow the unpredictable turns of the year ahead.”

What players are featured in series two?

Series two picks up with the same players who were in series one.

On the men’s ATP tour are Félix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Berrettini, Taylor Fritz, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Nick Kyrgios, and Casper Ruud. And on the women’s WTA tour are Paula Badosa, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, and Ajla Tomljanović.

But other players are also set to feature, even if just in passing, as the tour showcases the sport as a whole with contextual analysis.

The narrative picks up in what was Serena Williams’s final year, while Break Point 2 also charts Iga Świątek’s ascent to superstardom.

What other sports documentaries are on Netflix?

After the success of Drive to Survive, which returned for a fifth season in February, Netflix has a loaded summer of sports documentaries lined up.

Full Swing, Netflix says, follows many of the world’s top professional golfers both at home and at all four of the sport’s major championships. It dropped in February and has been recommissioned for a second series.

For American football fans, the streaming giant has also promised Quarterback, a first-of-its-kind partnership with the NFL, which will allow fans an intimate look at professional quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota.

A statement added: “Then there’s a handful of untitled series on the horizon, including one featuring [football] legend David Beckham, another one focused on the 2022 Tour de France, and another on the 2022 Fifa World Cup, as well as a docu-series on [an] international rugby tournament.”

Already streaming are basketball documentary The Last Dance, and football expose Sunderland ‘Till I Die, as well as close-ups on Naomi Osaka and Pele.

There has not yet been a documentary for athletics, despite reports that the British governing body was willing to use the format as a potential option to grow the sport.
