Big Brother has come under fire from fans after show bosses revealed housemates will be informed of the General Election result.

Host Emma Willis will announce the hung parliament outcome on Friday night’s live show.

A spokesperson said: “Live tomorrow [Friday] night, Emma Willis will reveal the result of the General Election to the Big Brother housemates.”

But the decision has riled some fans who claim the move deviates from the show’s premise that housemates be starved of contact from the outside.

One fan tweeted: “Defeats the idea of Big Brother when bosses insist on giving outside info. Election announcement tomorrow + people's housemate already in.”

Another posted: “Oh, for f**** sake. Why not just install broadband and hand out iPhones!?”

It won’t mark the first time this series that a housemate has been allowed to contact the outside.

Tom, who was voted in by the public to be the People’s Housemate, took part in a Facebook Live on launch night.

The nightclub owner was allowed to discuss his fellow housemates with fans in a bid to work out who to put up for eviction.

Some viewers were left disgusted on learning that Kayleigh Morris, Chanelle McLeary and Kieran Lee had starred on Ex On The Beach, Ellie Young on ITV2's Ibiza Weekender and Arthur Fulford on Life is Toff.

Big Brother is on Channel 5 tonight at 9pm.
