BBC Breakfast’s presenting duo burst into giggles after presenter Louise Minchin accidentally swore live on air.

The TV host apologised for the gaffe, which happened on Wednesday while discussing a serious news story about installing sprinkler systems in schools.

“Thank you very much for getting in touch,” Ms Minchin began, as she spoke about viewers contacting the show.

"Cliff says it's a waste of money while schools are occupied as everyone's awake and perfectly able to extinguish fires and evacuate in the normal way.”

She then goes on: “Ian says all schools irrespective of age should be s***, fit, fitted.”

The embarrassed broadcaster smiles and apologises, while co-presenter Dan Walker pulls a face at the camera before he bursts out laughing.

“Sometimes I should speak slower,” she says before giggling and adding: “Apologies.”

Viewers saw the funny side, with one social media user Sue Grant tweeting: “Oh poor Louise Minchin but you handled it with such grace.”

Another, Neil Ireland, said: “Thanks for making me smile whilst watching #bbcbreakfast this morning during the sprinkler in schools story!”

Dan Walker later tweeted about the incident and his facial expression, saying: “Abandon ship… that’s SHIP.”
