Dame Barbara Windsor sent a special birthday message to Jane Moore on Thursday’s Loose Women, speaking publicly for the first time since revealing her Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

The EastEnders legend spoke out via a video message during Thursday's show, in which she also thanked the public for their support in the wake of her sad news.

Moore looked stunned as Windsor said: “Hi Jane, and all the Loose Women, it’s Barbara Windsor here! I just want to wish you a very happy birthday darling Jane.

“Thank you, thank you so much for being a loyal and good friend and helping [my husband] Scott share my recent news.”

The 80-year-old continued: “I’d also like to say a big thank you to everyone for the lovely messages of support I’ve been receiving. It really means such a lot to me it truly does.

“Have a great day, and have no fear as I still intend to carry on and God bless everyone.”

The message, set up by Moore’s husband Gary, left Moore feeling emotional as she heard her close friend’s voice and held back tears.

Last week, Windsor’s husband Scott Mitchell revealed that she has been battling Alzheimer’s for four years.

He said that they have chosen to make the diagnosis public due to a deterioration of symptoms in recent weeks.

Mitchell told The Sun: "Since her 80th birthday last August, a definite continual confusion has set in, so it's becoming a lot more difficult for us to hide.

"I'm doing this because I want us to be able to go out and, if something isn't quite right, it will be OK because people will now know that she has Alzheimer's and will accept it for what it is."

Loose Women continues weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
