Andi Peters ‘overwhelmed’ as he reunites with Live & Kicking co-star Emma Forbes live on air

The pair hosted the CBBC show together from 1993 to 1996

Andi PetersLorraine hosting debut was more emotional than the presenter had anticipated thanks to a surprise reunion with his former Live & Kicking co-star Emma Forbes.

The TV star, 50, stepped up to host ITV’s morning chat show for the first time on Monday while Lorraine Kelly is on holiday.

The show’s entertainment reporter Ria Hebden had a special surprise for Peters during her segment, which looked back at his stint on Live & Kicking, CBBC’s much-loved weekend programme, in the 90s.

The instantly recognisable tones of Live & Kicking’s voiceover artist Mitch Johnson greeted Peters, telling him it was “nice to see him back in charge where you belong” and joking that it was “just like the old days” before introducing Forbes.

“As we’re talking about the old days, I think something’s not quite right,” Johnson said. “We’re not quite complete as a team - it’s you, me and who’s missing?”

Peters was open-mouthed with shock as Forbes, who he worked alongside for three years, appeared on screen via video link from Long Island in the United States.

He appeared to hold back tears as he greeted his friend and colleague, who quipped: “You talk about needing a nap - I’ve got up at 3.30 in the morning for you!”

Peters described the reunion as “amazing” before admitting: “I’m sorry, I’m very overwhelmed because she is my dearest.”

Forbes showed viewers that she had “already got the tissues at the ready” before telling the audience that they were “lucky” to have Peters filling in for Kelly for a fortnight “because quite frankly, they’re going to have the best two weeks ever.”

She added: “You are television gold as far as I’m concerned.”

John Barrowman, who appeared on Live & Kicking alongside Forbes from 1993 to 1995, also sent a good luck message to his former co-star during Monday’s episode.

Speaking ahead of his hosting debut, Peters said the move was “a great statement from [ITV] about getting more black faces on television in lead roles as opposed to support roles, which is really important.”

He added: "I love Lorraine, I've known her for ten years, I'm on her show every day and it's great to be part of that family. So, sitting in for her is an honour, Lorraine is an institution."

Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
