When you tune in to This Morning on ITV, you never quite know what you’re going to get – but viewers were in for a particular surprise today.

One guest on the breakfast show was Tom Peters, a man who engages in ‘puppy play’.

That means that, in the privacy of his own home, he dresses up as a dalmation and lives his life like a dog.

Entering the studio on all fours to the sounds of the Baha Men’s Who Let The Dogs Out, Peters explained why he does what he does.

“It’s a means of being able to escape from life, get away from the sort of day-to-day business that you live in, and just have a chance to chill and relax and have fun with the simple things in life, like a chew toy,” he explained.

“It’s a chance to unwind, chill, and clear the mind.”

Peters features in Channel 4’s documentary Secret Life of the Human Pups airing on May 25, which looks at the ‘human puppy play’ community, estimated to be almost 10,000 people in the UK alone.

While Channel 4’s film will air at 10pm, viewers weren’t expecting to see a human puppy on the breakfast show – and many people simply weren’t sure how to feel.

Not sure quite what to think about the idea of ‘puppy play’? Tune into Channel 4’s documentary to discover more about why people choose to practise it, and how it affects their lives and those around them.
