Frankie Bridge on her acting debut in the West End, and we discuss the many pitfalls of theatre outdoors

The actress tells the Evening Standard Theatre Podcast why she thought she’d either end up in musical theatre, or advertising Cheestrings

Frankie Bridge joins The Evening Standard Theatre Podcast to talk about her acting debut in 2:22 A Ghost Story, which is now on at the Apollo Theatre, also starring Jaime Winstone.

Frankie tells us about her character, Lauren, and why she’s relieved not to be playing Winstone’s character Jenny (and be compared to Cheryl and Lily Allen). She also reveals the future of her old band The Saturdays, why she once thought she might end up advertising Cheestrings, and what her footballing husband Wayne Bridge said to her after her first performance.

Despite press night being rained off, we discuss the musical La Cage aux Folles, now on at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre, directed by the venue’s outgoing Artistic Director Tim Sheader, with a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman.

We also review Word-Play at the Royal Court. Rabiah Hussain’s new play, directed by Nimmo Ismail, addresses the question of just how powerful words can really be.

Plus, we take a look at what’s going on in theatre this week, why we love the V&A Theatre & Performance collections, and a new exhibition of theatre cartoons in London.
