Rhys Ifans is to withdraw from his upcoming role in new play Mood Music, The Old Vic has announced.
The theatre released a statement to say that "with regret, [he] is withdrawing from the production due to family reasons".
Ifans, who is best known for his film roles in Notting Hill and The Amazing Spiderman, has appeared in two recent productions at the Old Vic: A Christmas Carol and King Lear.
The world premiere of the play, which is due to preview from April 21, will now star Ben Chaplin in the role of Bernard, in place of Ifans.
Chaplin, who co-starred with Ifans in the film Snowden and received an Olivier Award nomination for his performance in The Glass Menagerie at the Donmar Warehouse, will star in the new Joe Penhall play as a record producer who goes to battle over the ownership of a hit song.
Chaplin will star alongside Seana Kerslake, Pip Carter, Kurt Egyiawan, Jemma Redgrave and Neil Stuke in the production, which is due to run at The Old Vic in its 200th anniversary year until June 16.
