Meghan Markle’s Suits co-star Wendell Pierce said he hopes the royal returns to acting one day — and suggested Prince Harry joins her on stage.

The US star, who played her father in the hit legal drama, is now in the lead role in Death of a Salesman at the Young Vic. Pierce, also known for playing detective Bunk Moreland in The Wire, said making his London debut in the new production of the Arthur Miller classic was “absolutely amazing, a once-in-a-lifetime thing”.

Speaking about the Duchess of Sussex, he said: “The thing I am very interested in is if she will ever get the opportunity to act again? I know protocol doesn’t allow her to do it now, but to be going through this experience here with Death of a Salesman, I wish this on every actor.

“I understand what it is like to come to the theatre with a group of people like I’m working with and to experience a text like this and to commune in a very cathartic way with an audience. I shudder to think she’s not going to get that any more.”

Pierce said he thought the royal couple should stage a version of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Love Letters by US playwright A R Gurney, saying: “They are patrons of the arts, it’s reading love letters, they are in love and it’s a play, I think it’s perfect.”

Pierce’s co-star Sharon D Clarke, from Doctor Who, said Miller’s comments on society still matter given “the state the world is in”.
