It’s hard to find the words to describe the London International Mime Festival, returning to the capital this month for its 37 year.

From psychedelic puppetry to art circus and aerial acrobatics, this annual celebration of performance art kicks off tonight and runs for 18 days across the city.

Ockham’s Razor open this year’s festival with their Not Until We Are Lost show at the Platform Theatre.

With unusual performances by 15 British and overseas companies, the 2013 LIMF aims to promote innovative, visual theatre from around the world.

Packed with UK premieres, including new work by Les Ballets C de la B artists Romeu Runa and Miguel Moreira, Switzerland’s circus-theatre stars Zimmermann & de Perrot, and outstanding British puppeteers, Blind Summit, this year’s season will include performances on stages from The Barbican, Southbank Centre and Roundhouse, to The Royal Opera House and Soho Theatre.

The Barbican Pit will see Yeung Fai tell the true story of a young boy’s escape from China to the west, in Hand Stories.

At the Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room, shadow pupperty combines with comedy and interactive film in Wolfe Bowart’s Letter’s End.

Meanwhile The Cardinals tell well-known Bible stories without the use of words at Camden’s Roundhouse.
