The most hotly anticipated musical of the year opens this week in the West End.

Production pictures have been released for Dear Evan Hansen, which officially opens at the Noel Coward Theatre on Wednesday.

Newcomer Sam Tutty plays the lead role, having been selected after a round of open auditions, and makes his West End debut as Evan Hansen. The story follows a socially anxious schoolboy who gets his wish of being the centre of attention when he tells a lie that spirals out of control.

The Broadway musical won six Tony Awards in 2017, including for best musical and best original score. It has a book by Steven Levenson and music and lyrics by The Greatest Showman songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

Michael Greif returns to direct the show with the original Broadway creative team, including Danny Mefford’s choreography, scenic design by David Korins, costumes by Emily Rebholz, lighting by Japhy Weideman, sound by Nevin Steinberg and music supervision by Alex Lacamoire.

A weekly ticket lottery has also been announced for the musical, and booking has been extended until May 2 2020 with more tickets on sale for new dates.
