Allelujah! at the Bridge Theatre: Watch the trailer ahead of NT Live broadcast

Alan Bennett's latest play may be entering into its final weeks of performances at the Bridge Theatre, but there are more chances to see it: will be broadcast live from the Bridge Theatre to cinemas around the country.

Allelujah! looks at a life in a local hospital which is facing closure due to NHS cost-cutting. Set in a small town on the edge of the Pennines, the hospital’s battle for survival is captured by a documentary crew who observe everything from the geriatric ward to the in-house choir.

It is Bennett’s first full-length play since People in 2012, which examined the national heritage industry.

The production is directed by Nicholas Hytner, a long-time collaborator of Bennett’s and co-founder of the Bridge Theatre, which opened last year.

It stars original History Boys cast members Samuel Barnett and Sacha Dhawan amongst a cast of 25.

Allelujah! runs at the Bridge Theatre until September 29. The NT Live screening will take place in venues around the country on November 1. More information about screening venues can be found at ntlive.nationaltheatre.org.uk
