The adult colouring book that is based on human organs

The co-creator hopes that it will increase the profile of a 'hidden gem' in London

The adult colouring book craze shows no sign of stopping, but Lauren Hellier says that this is not why she’s drawing hands with Elephantitis, and human hearts.

“Our reasoning for doing this book isn’t just to jump on a bandwagon. It’s completely to engage people with this collection,” she said.

Ms Hellier, who goes by the pseudonym Lozzy Bones, is in the process of creating an adult colouring book that is based on human specimens at Barts Pathology Museum in London.

The concept for the project, which is being published with the museum’s curator, Carla Valentine, came not from the current adult colouring trend, but from the hope of increasing the museum’s profile.

“This museum is in a hospital and is not open to the public, and it’s unfunded”, she explained.

“By either buying the colouring book, coming to an event, coming to one of our classes – I think it’s really important because you’re supporting those small gems in London that people wouldn’t usually know about.

The final colouring book, which will have between 20 and 30 illustrations, will be published this autumn and sold both online and at the museum.
