Summer festivals for arts lovers: where to go if you want more than just music

Want to feel cultured in a field? These festivals offer plenty to get your art racing

Festivals aren't necessarily just the place to go if you want to hear music in a big field; there are a number of them with line-ups that are loaded with an arts-y twist.

Now as well as hearing the headliner, festivals are the place to see theatre, dance, spoken word, as well as talks and debates, all in picturesque, sunny environments (provided the weather is on your side).

Latitude, Wilderness, and Port Eliot are just a few of the festivals that offer something more than music, which is great if you want to get a bit more out of your festival experience, or if you want to see the art forms that you love in totally different environments.

Since everyone’s in free-spirit mode, you’re far more likely to get chatting to your neighbour - or even the performers, who will probably stick around for a drink when they’ve done their slot.
